TRANSPORT & LOAD RESTRAINT
Bracing
Bracing uses suitable supports or restraints to limit unwanted movement of cargo or its packaging. It forms part of a load-securing arrangement designed for the actual load and transport conditions.
BRACING IN PRACTICE
- Assess the loadIdentify movement risks and transport conditions.
- Design the restraintUse suitable equipment and approved methods.
- Inspect and hand overCheck condition and document responsibility.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
A gap changes the loading plan.
A loading team finds that a shipment occupies less trailer space than the approved loading arrangement anticipated. The new gaps may allow movement, so the team escalates the difference for a suitable revised securing arrangement. Filling the space with arbitrary scrap material is not an equivalent design. The example illustrates why changes need review; it does not specify a safe bracing method for a particular load.

A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT
Questions about Bracing
Is bracing the same as any packaging filler?
No. A restraint function needs an appropriate design and suitable materials.
Does a tightly packed load need no review?
No. Stability, restraint, weight distribution and vehicle suitability still need assessment.
Can one bracing plan cover every shipment?
Only within its approved conditions. Material changes require the appropriate review.
