ORDER FLOW & WAREHOUSE EXECUTION
Batch fulfillment
Batch fulfillment organizes a group of orders for coordinated processing across relevant fulfillment stages. Grouping and controls keep picking, sorting, packing and dispatch tied to each order.
BATCH FULFILLMENT IN PRACTICE
- Group eligible ordersApply product, service and timing rules.
- Execute and separatePreserve each order’s identity.
- Verify dispatchConfirm each order and its physical handoff.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
20 orders. 60 units. Twenty identities.
A batch contains 20 orders with three units each: 60 units to fulfill. Collecting all 60 into one tote does not prove each customer will receive the correct three. The process must preserve or restore separation, verify contents and control missing items. It also needs a rule for releasing complete orders without losing track of an incomplete one.

A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT
Questions about Batch fulfillment
Is batch fulfillment identical to batch picking?
No. Fulfillment can coordinate more stages than the collection step.
Should batches always be as large as possible?
No. Capacity, sorting, congestion and deadlines affect the useful size.
Does batch labeling prove shipment?
No. Confirm completed orders and actual transport handoff.
