INVENTORY & WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS

Pallet Picking

Reading time
3 minutes

Pallet picking selects and moves a defined pallet load to meet an order or warehouse task.

PALLET PICKING IN PRACTICE

  1. Match the required load
  2. Verify pallet & stock
  3. Move & confirm the destination

A WORKED EXAMPLE

Two pallets. 480 eaches if the loads match.

An order requires two full pallets configured at 20 cases of 12 eaches each. That represents 480 eaches. If one selected pallet is partial with ten cases, the pair contains only 360 eaches. Confirm actual contents instead of converting every pallet as a full one.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR QUOTE

Make the requirement explicit

Use the same scope and units when comparing providers. Put the agreed responsibility, included work and exception process into the service description.

Put this term to work. Use the 3PL selection guide to turn these operating requirements into provider checks, and the 3PL RFP guide to document evidence, responsibilities and exceptions.

A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT

Questions about Pallet Picking

Is a pallet pick always a full pallet?

The task or quote must define that. A physical pallet can carry a partial load.

Is moving reserve stock to a pick face a customer shipment?

No. Internal replenishment and outbound order picking are different transaction purposes.
