MEASUREMENT & PERFORMANCE

Inbound Order Accuracy

Reading time
3 minutes

Inbound order accuracy measures how closely received inbound orders match defined requirements such as item, quantity, condition and required data.

INBOUND ORDER ACCURACY IN PRACTICE

  1. Define the checks
  2. Compare receipt to requirements
  3. Report errors & scope

A WORKED EXAMPLE

96 of 100 receipts pass every check.

An operation checks 100 receipts for the correct SKU, quantity and required lot data. Ninety-six pass all three tests, giving 96% order accuracy under that rule. A separate quantity-only result can be higher. Name the checks and denominator when sharing the percentage.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR QUOTE

Make the requirement explicit

Use the same scope and units when comparing providers. Put the agreed responsibility, included work and exception process into the service description.

A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT

Questions about Inbound Order Accuracy

Does a shortage prove the receiver made an error?

No. It may be a correctly recorded supplier discrepancy; evidence and responsibility need review.

Can two accuracy figures both be correct?

Yes, if one measures quantities and another measures complete receipts against several requirements.
