INVENTORY & WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS

Dock Scheduling

Reading time
3 minutes

Dock scheduling assigns arrival windows and dock resources to inbound or outbound vehicle movements.

DOCK SCHEDULING IN PRACTICE

  1. Book the appointment
  2. Confirm arrival & readiness
  3. Record actual service

A WORKED EXAMPLE

Four slots. One late vehicle.

Four vehicles are booked for 08:00, 09:00, 10:00 and 11:00 at one receiving door. The 08:00 vehicle arrives at 09:30. A rescheduling rule is needed to prevent it displacing every later appointment automatically. Record the original slot, actual arrival and service times separately.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR QUOTE

Make the requirement explicit

Use the same scope and units when comparing providers. Put the agreed responsibility, included work and exception process into the service description.

Questions about Dock Scheduling

Is specialist software required?

No. Software may help coordinate appointments, but the process can also be managed with other controlled tools.

Is appointment time the dock-to-stock start?

Only if that is the agreed KPI definition. Booking, arrival and unloading are different timestamps.
