WAREHOUSE TECHNOLOGY & WORK INSTRUCTIONS
Augmented reality (AR)
Augmented reality adds digital information to a user’s view of the physical environment. In logistics, it can display locations, item details or work instructions while a person performs a task.
AUGMENTED REALITY IN PRACTICE
- Present the taskDisplay the relevant location and item instruction.
- Confirm the actionUse suitable item and quantity verification.
- Measure the workflowCompare accuracy, time and usability.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
A prompt points to bin A. Verify the item.
A picker’s display identifies bin A and requests two units of a specific variant. Another variant has been placed there incorrectly. If the process simply accepts the displayed instruction as proof, the wrong item can still ship. A suitable physical identity check and exception route should catch the mismatch. The display guides the task; it does not make an incorrect bin automatically correct.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR QUOTE
Agree the requirement before comparing quotes
Use the actual shipment, stock and service requirements. Record the billing unit, included work and responsibility for exceptions.
A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT
Questions about Augmented reality
Is AR the same as virtual reality?
No. AR adds information to the physical view; virtual reality typically replaces the viewed environment with a simulated one.
Can AR replace every barcode scan?
Not automatically. Required verification depends on the system and operating process.
Does AR always improve pick rate?
No. Measure the actual workflow, accuracy, usability and exception handling in a representative trial.
