WAREHOUSE CONTROL & PERFORMANCE
Yard Management System (YMS)
A yard management system records and supports vehicle, trailer, location and movement activity around a facility’s yard. Functions can include gate events, appointments, dock assignment and move tasks.
YARD MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN PRACTICE
- Record the arrivalIdentify vehicle, load and appointment.
- Coordinate the yardAssign approved locations and work.
- Verify departureReconcile actual status and dwell.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
Booked at 09:00. Arrived at 10:00.
A trailer’s appointment is 09:00 but its gate event is 10:00. The YMS should retain both rather than use the appointment as actual arrival. Dwell calculations then need explicit start and end events.
