SERVICE DESIGN & OPERATIONAL VALUE
Upside Production Flexibility
Upside production flexibility is the ability to increase output above a defined baseline within stated time and sustainability conditions. A useful measure specifies the required increase, response time and duration.
UPSIDE PRODUCTION FLEXIBILITY IN PRACTICE
- Set the baselineDefine normal output and mix.
- Define the increaseState the required uplift and duration.
- Validate capabilityTest the complete response.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
20% more for four weeks.
A hypothetical operation normally releases 1,000 units weekly. A request for 1,200 is a 20% increase. Demonstrating that output for one day does not prove it can be sustained for four weeks with acceptable quality and supply.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR QUOTE
Agree the requirement before comparing quotes
Use the actual shipment, stock and service requirements. Record the billing unit, included work and responsibility for exceptions.
A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT
Questions about Upside Production Flexibility
Is a short peak enough to prove flexibility?
No. State the required response and sustainment period.
Must every metric use the same uplift threshold?
No. Identify the selected framework and threshold.
Can warehouse capacity alone establish it?
No. Other supply, production and delivery constraints may limit the increase.
