END-TO-END FIRST-PASS QUALITY
Rolled Throughput Yield (RTY)
Rolled throughput yield combines the relevant first-pass yields across a defined sequence of process steps. It represents the end-to-end first-pass outcome when the stage measures and populations are compatible.
ROLLED THROUGHPUT YIELD IN PRACTICE
- Define the sequenceIdentify the steps and same process population.
- Measure first-pass resultsKeep rework and accepted output distinct.
- Combine consistentlyUse the valid sequential yield relationship.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
Two strong stages can still reduce the combined result.
For an aligned simplified sequence with first-pass yields of 90% then 80%, RTY is 0.90 × 0.80 = 72%. The simple average of 85% would not describe that sequence’s combined first-pass result.
