PRODUCTION OUTPUT MEASURES
Process Yield
Process yield measures output relative to a defined input or opportunity base for a specified process. The formula must identify units, quality criteria, boundaries and whether rework is included.
PROCESS YIELD IN PRACTICE
- Define the measureState input, accepted output and boundary.
- Capture actual resultsRecord losses, rework and status.
- Interpret the ratioUse comparable periods and process conditions.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
First-pass success and eventual recovery differ.
Of 100 units entering a defined step, 90 pass without rework and five more pass after rework. First-pass yield is 90%; eventual accepted output is 95 units under this simplified example.
