REPLENISHMENT TRIGGERS
Reorder Point (ROP)
A reorder point is a defined inventory threshold used to trigger replenishment review or action. A simplified model sets it from expected demand during replenishment lead time plus an agreed safety-stock allowance.
REORDER POINT IN PRACTICE
- Define the inputsCheck demand, lead time and protection.
- Define the positionIdentify which stock and supply count.
- Review the responseApply approvals and order constraints.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
Ten units per day over five days need a defined buffer.
With illustrative demand of 10 eaches per day, five days of lead time and 20 eaches safety stock, the simplified reorder point is 10 × 5 + 20 = 70 eaches. Actual policy and variability need separate review.
