CONTAINER EQUIVALENTS & EQUIPMENT
Forty-Foot Equivalent Unit (FEU)
A forty-foot equivalent unit is a container-capacity measure corresponding to one standard forty-foot-length container equivalent. One FEU equals two twenty-foot equivalent units for this length-based measure.
FORTY-FOOT EQUIVALENT UNIT IN PRACTICE
- Read the capacity unitDistinguish FEU, TEU and container count.
- Specify the equipmentConfirm type and usable dimensions.
- Check cargo acceptanceReview weight, layout and route constraints.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
Three forty-foot units = six TEU equivalents.
For a simplified shipment of three forty-foot containers, the length-based measure is 3 FEU or 6 TEU. The calculation does not tell the warehouse the units’ actual cargo weights, internal heights or unloading requirements.
