DATA QUALITY & OPERATIONAL DECISIONS
Data Analysis
Data analysis examines and interprets records to answer a defined question. In logistics, it can explain performance, compare alternatives and support decisions using warehouse, order, transport or financial data.
DATA ANALYSIS IN PRACTICE
- Define the questionChoose the decision and relevant population.
- Validate the recordsCheck identities, units and missing events.
- Test the explanationCompare evidence and recommend an action.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
Same orders. Different denominators.
A report shows 90 on-time shipments among 100 eligible orders: 90%. Another report excludes 10 late orders because a dispatch event is missing and reports 100%. The disagreement is about the population, not warehouse improvement. Reconcile the missing events before presenting a service result.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR QUOTE
Agree the requirement before comparing quotes
Use the actual shipment, stock and service requirements. Record the billing unit, included work and responsibility for exceptions.
A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT
Questions about Data Analysis
Does analysis prove causation?
Not by itself. A relationship needs further evidence before a causal claim.
Is a dashboard the whole analysis?
No. Data validation, interpretation and the resulting decision also matter.
Who should approve disputed records?
An accountable person should review the discrepancy and supporting evidence.
