Counting Scale
A counting scale estimates a quantity of similar pieces by dividing net weight by an established average piece weight.
COUNTING SCALE IN PRACTICE
- Establish piece weight
- Measure net weight
- Check the result
A WORKED EXAMPLE
500 grams. About 100 pieces.
A verified sample has an average piece weight of five grams. A net load of 500 grams indicates 100 pieces. If a 50-gram container is mistakenly included, the same calculation indicates 110 pieces. Tare the container correctly and confirm the process against a known count.

A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT
Questions about Counting Scale
Can a scale count mixed products reliably?
A single average piece weight cannot identify different items or separate mixed quantities.
Is net weight the same as gross weight?
No. Net weight excludes the container or other tare included in the gross load.
