AUTOMATION & ROAD TRANSPORT
Autonomous car
An autonomous car is a vehicle described as capable of performing driving tasks through an automated system. The level of automation, operating conditions and human role must be specified to understand that claim.
AUTONOMOUS CAR IN PRACTICE
- Define the capabilityIdentify the driving task and operating limits.
- Plan the fallbackAssign response when conditions or systems fail.
- Validate the operationCheck authorization, safety and delivery handoffs.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
A defined route is not every road.
A delivery pilot proposes automated operation on one defined route in stated conditions. When roadworks move that route outside the approved operating conditions, the operator follows the agreed fallback rather than assuming the vehicle can continue anywhere. The business also needs an arrangement for loading, recipient authentication and unloading; driving capability alone does not complete the delivery service.

A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT
Questions about Autonomous car
Is a driver-assistance system a fully autonomous vehicle?
No. Assistance may still require an attentive driver responsible for the driving task.
Can an automated vehicle operate in every location?
Do not assume so. Capability and authorization can be limited to defined operating conditions.
Does autonomy remove delivery handoff work?
No. Loading, customer access, unloading, security and exception handling still need arrangements.
