A warehouse execution system coordinates the flow and sequencing of operational work, often across warehouse automation and other systems. Its boundary with WMS and equipment-control software varies by implementation.

WAREHOUSE EXECUTION SYSTEM IN PRACTICE

  1. Assign responsibilitiesDefine the system boundaries.
  2. Coordinate workUse actual capacity and status inputs.
  3. Test exceptionsReconcile failures and recovery.

Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

Task released. Equipment unavailable.

A system requests a movement, but the intended equipment is unavailable. The configured workflow needs an approved hold, reroute or recovery path and must preserve the task state. Assuming the command completed could corrupt the inventory position.
