Value-of-service pricing sets charges with reference to the value or benefit a customer attributes to a service, rather than relying only on the provider’s cost. The commercial mechanism still needs a defined scope and price basis.

VALUE OF SERVICE PRICING IN PRACTICE

  1. Define the benefitIdentify the customer outcome.
  2. Agree the mechanismState how price is determined.
  3. Review the evidenceCompare outcomes and assumptions.

Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

Premium service with a clear need.

A customer values a later eligible dispatch cutoff because it supports its sales promise. The provider prices the agreed capability and defines the conditions. The premium does not automatically prove a particular revenue increase or guarantee the customer’s downstream result.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR QUOTE
