MODEL-BASED OPERATIONAL ESTIMATES
Predictive Analytics
Predictive analytics uses data and models to estimate future or otherwise unknown outcomes. In logistics it can support demand forecasts, delay-risk assessment and other decisions where uncertainty matters.
PREDICTIVE ANALYTICS IN PRACTICE
- Define the targetState what outcome and horizon are predicted.
- Validate the modelTest on relevant data not used to fit it.
- Review the decisionExpose uncertainty and assign action ownership.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
A risk score needs evidence and a decision owner.
A model flags a shipment as likely late. The operations team reviews current events and options before changing the customer promise rather than treating the score as an already-observed delay.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR QUOTE
Agree the requirement before comparing quotes
Use the actual shipment, stock and service requirements. Record the billing unit, included work and responsibility for exceptions.
Put this term to work. Use the EDI guide to understand the message flow, then compare retail and EDI-capable 3PLs against your required transactions and exception controls.
