PRODUCTION TIME & AVAILABILITY
Machine Downtime
Machine downtime is time when equipment is not running within a defined operating or measurement context. It can arise from failures, setups, planned activities or other stops, which should be classified consistently.
MACHINE DOWNTIME IN PRACTICE
- Define the clockState scheduled and planned production time.
- Capture the stopRecord start, finish and reason.
- Review the impactAssess output, recovery and prevention.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
A stop needs a time base and a reason.
During 480 minutes of defined planned production time, a machine stops for 30 minutes. Under this simplified availability calculation, run time is 450 minutes and availability is 450 ÷ 480 = 93.75%. This is not the full OEE calculation.
