End-of-life inventory is stock associated with a product or component being discontinued or phased out. It may include remaining saleable goods, service parts and material requiring controlled disposition.

END-OF-LIFE INVENTORY IN PRACTICE

  1. Define the transitionConfirm the discontinuation and support plan.
  2. Assess remaining stockReview demand, condition and obligations.
  3. Approve dispositionDocument sale, return, reuse or disposal.

Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

Discontinued product. Continuing service need.

A brand stops selling a device but must support existing customers. It reserves approved spare parts and separately decides what to do with excess finished goods. Discontinuation alone does not justify discarding all remaining stock.
