DEMAND PLANNING & COORDINATION
Demand-Chain Management
Demand-chain management coordinates supply and distribution decisions around customer demand and market information. It connects demand planning with sourcing, inventory and fulfillment choices.
DEMAND-CHAIN MANAGEMENT IN PRACTICE
- Read demand signalsCombine orders, sales and market context.
- Translate into a planAlign inventory and capacity with requirements.
- Review the responseMeasure availability, service and excess stock.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
A promotion changes the required mix.
A brand expects a promotion to increase orders for one variant. It shares the timing and assumptions with suppliers and its 3PL, which checks stock, receiving and pick capacity. Actual sales are reviewed during the campaign so replenishment responds to evidence without treating every early spike as a permanent trend.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR QUOTE
Agree the requirement before comparing quotes

A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT
Questions about Demand-Chain Management
Does this eliminate forecasting?
No. Forecasts remain useful where response lead times exceed demand visibility.
Are actual sales always true demand?
No. Stockouts and other constraints can suppress sales.
Must every flow be make-to-order?
No. A network can combine stocked and order-driven flows.
