TRADE VALUATION & DECLARATION EVIDENCE
Customs value
Customs value is the value determined under applicable customs valuation rules. Transaction value is a primary basis under the WTO framework, subject to its conditions and relevant adjustments.
CUSTOMS VALUE IN PRACTICE
- Identify the methodEstablish the applicable valuation basis.
- Check adjustmentsReview supporting costs and transaction facts.
- Approve the evidenceRetain the rationale and accountable review.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
A $10,000 invoice needs a valuation review.
A transaction invoice totals $10,000, while the buyer has separately supplied material used in producing the goods. The responsible trade team checks whether the applicable valuation rules require an adjustment and obtains the relevant evidence. The invoice amount alone does not settle that question.
