PLANNING & DISRUPTION RESPONSE
Agile supply chain
An agile supply chain can adjust sourcing, inventory, production and logistics decisions in response to change. Useful agility combines timely information with approved alternatives and clear decision ownership.
AGILE SUPPLY CHAIN IN PRACTICE
- Detect the changeCompare demand and supply signals with the plan.
- Assess the alternativesCheck feasible supply, stock and transport options.
- Authorize the responseExecute the chosen change and reconcile results.
Use the agreed units, actual records and approved procedures for your operation.
A WORKED EXAMPLE
Two suppliers. Only one qualified option.
A brand’s primary supplier is delayed. Its supplier list includes a second company, but that supplier has not completed the product approval and packing-data checks. The list alone does not make the alternative ready. An agile response identifies approved near-term supply, available stock and achievable customer dates, while separately completing the controls needed for future substitution.

A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT
Questions about Agile supply chain
Is agility just faster transport?
No. It includes decisions across supply, demand, production, stock and logistics.
Does a backup supplier guarantee continuity?
No. The supplier must be qualified, able to supply and compatible with the required timing and specification.
Does an agile supply chain need no forecast?
No. Forecasts and actual signals can both inform decisions; assumptions and uncertainty still need review.
