MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military grade in the Alabama Army National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Alabama Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. MINIMUM MILITARY RANK: PVT MAXIMUM MILITARY RANK: SFC EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Each applicant must fully substantiate (in his/her own words) that he/she meets the requirements of the Specialized Experience listed below: Otherwise, the applicant will be considered unqualified for this position. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and safely operate the type of equipment required to accomplish the duties of the position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to operate and perform operator maintenance on straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 pounds. Experience demonstrating ability to operate truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers and motor coaches. Experience operating vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, and on steep winding grades. Experience driving vehicles without mishap in complicated traffic situations. SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE: --Requires skills and knowledge to operate vehicles that have limited maneuverability; have more than one body and two breaking systems; or are oversized. --Skill and ability to operate these vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, day and night driving, and on steep winding grades. --Extremely knowledgeable about turning the vehicles, in evaluating the condition and load limits, in scheduling weigh points, and in accessing traffic conditions and hazards, locally and over long-distance routes in unfamiliar geographic areas. --Knowledgeable, skill and ability in backing trailers in congested locations with limited space, applying the dual braking system on steep grades to preclude jackknife situation, and maneuver oversize vehicles safely under all driving conditions and environments. --Knowledge of warehousing plans and accepted warehousing methods, supply procedures and techniques.
