Summary

This position is located in the Fleet Management Section within the Facilities Management Service at the El Paso Texas Veteran Health Care System (EPVHCS) in El Paso, TX. The primary purpose of the Transportation Assistant - Fleet Management position is to provide planning, direction, organization and exercise control over 130 government vehicles assigned to the Health Care System.

Duties

  • ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties include but are not limited to: Schedules and plans vehicle operations, maintenance, repair, preventative maintenance and maintains vehicle overall appearance; Schedules and dispatches vehicles for other official business purposes; Schedules maintenance, repair and cleaning for all leased vehicles; Dispatches buses and other vehicles and operators for patient recreation; Schedules return and pick up of General Service Administration (GSA) vehicles at the Fleet Management Center; Schedules GSA vehicles to vendors' shops for installation of special equipment; Coordinates the data submitted by various Services from any location in the health care system for fleet services; Provides proper procedures, safety rules and regulations instructions to employees in the safe operation of GSA vehicles assigned to Fleet Management; Ensures that proper maintenance records are kept on all vehicles and pieces of equipment assigned to Fleet Management; Submits monthly, quarterly and annual cost reports as well as estimated cost reports on vehicles; Coordinates, plans, budgets and maintains consistency in fleet services; Orders/cancels credit cards, reviews statements checking for fraud or misuse; Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with a wide range of individuals with varying levels of understanding; Tracks all vehicle histories from time of purchase/donation to six (6) years past the turn-in or salvage/auction of each vehicle or piece of equipment; and Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-7 level, you must meet the following: Experience: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) in Federal Service that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Transportation Assistant - Fleet Management. Qualifying experience includes: applying extensive transportation regulations, methods, and practices to perform transportation support assignments; possessing a working knowledge of the care and upkeep requirements including the repair and maintenance of vehicles; instructing others in the safe operation of vehicles; utilizing knowledge of transportation regulations, methods, and practices to perform a wide variety of transportation assignments; maintaining and completing accurate records, completing reports, and experience with purchasing or credit card utilization. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position requires working in a standard office environment and walking to and through other areas of the facility. Work requires considerable walking, bending, climbing stairs or ladders and standing. Work requires moderate lifting. The person in this position will prioritize safety in the workplace. Work requires sporadic exposure to thermal extremes and inclement weather. The person in this position must be able to work under pressure and still maintain poise and composure.
