About the Position: Serves as a Supervisory Public Safety Dispatcher working under the direct supervision of the Emergency Communications Center Manager for Fort Belvoir Directorate of Emergency Services.

Duties

  • Directs the daily round-the-clock operations and shift scheduling for the emergency communication center.
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews on a minimum of 10% of incoming service calls.
  • Designs and leads training sessions to certify new emergency dispatch personnel.
  • Develops employee performance standards and conducts formal appraisals for subordinates.
  • Resolves informal employee complaints and grievances within the workplace.
  • Ensures subordinates maintain a level of proficiency in the performance of their duties that will best serve Fort Belvoir populace.
  • Consults with the Fire Chief, Physical Security Chief, and Police Chief on operational and procedural issues concerning fire, police, and security response.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Operating public safety communications equipment such as Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to receive, evaluate or prioritize incoming emergency calls for service; 2) dispatching police, fire or emergency medical resources using multi-agency emergency dispatch protocols; and 3) leading operational tasks or shift personnel within a centralized 911 public safety communications center environment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability to Lead or Supervise Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Decision Making Manages and Organizes Information Technical Competence
