MOTOR VEHICLE DISPATCHER

The primary purpose of this position is to provide emergency, fire, and medical services to the base populace by answering emergency 911 calls, maintaining an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to ensure prompt and accurate response, and perform routine, recurring vehicle dispatch and recordkeeping duties.

Duties

• Provides emergency 911 and dispatching services and determines the nature of the emergency in accordance with established guidelines. Maintains a current automated outage status file for fire detection/suppression systems, fire hydrants; or any other system which is an impairment to fire safety and ensures senior fire officials receive current outage reports. Operates and maintains telephones, automated data processing equipment, printers, recorders, facsimile equipment, and other devices installed in the dispatch center. Prepares and maintains reports and records relating to emergency responses. Participates in all areas of the fire protection training program relating to the operations of the dispatch center and perform work in safe manner.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in federal service which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience which may have been gained receiving requests for transportation support, dispatching appropriate vehicles, and maintaining applicable records; maintaining an accurate status of all emergency response equipment including firefighting, hazardous materials, wild land firefighting, technical rescue and emergency medical services while ensuring prompt and accurate response. OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of four years above high school level education in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100 percent. To combine education and experience, determine the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval, and input of data. Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, the kind of apparatus, and equipment needed for the emergency at hand. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations. Ability to work independently without immediate supervision. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: Works in close harmony with supervisors' co-workers and others during day-to-day routines and during emergencies; required to maintain good working relationships with on and off-base agencies, always maintaining a consistently courteous attitude. Remain calm during emergency situations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
